The Real Benefit of Family Yoga
Christie @ Divine Child Yoga | JUN 1, 2022

If you are feeling disconnected as a family, making the time to do something together can really help.
And, you guessed it, Family yoga is the perfect opportunity for this!
Family yoga is a class designed for all ages with a focus on working together, supporting one another, listening to and communicating with each other, partnering up, and most of all - having fun!
You may think you spend lots of time together as a family already, but consider how much of this time you actually spend being present together.
By this I mean, do you or other family members get distracted by notifications on your phone or television? Or are you lost in thought or preoccupied by work projects, household tasks, laundry, cooking, helping with homework?
My guess is that many of these moments aren’t spent quite as present as you’d think... 🙋♀️guilty as charged...
What is being present? As described by healthline.com “Being present (or living mindfully, whatever you want to call it) simply means you're focused and engaged in the here and now, not distracted or mentally absent.”
This is also often referred to as practicing mindfulness, which is tuning into how you are interacting with your surroundings, rather than tuning out when you feel stressed, bored, or immersed in thought.
The great thing about coming to yoga class together, is it is one of the only spaces that these distractions can be set aside for an hour or so. I don’t know about you, but setting boundaries around screen time may be something you do for your kids, but don’t necessarily have for yourself!
Taking the time to disconnect from distractions and reconnect as a family unit can be really transformative. Sibling relationships and family issues can be solved when families make time for talking, listening, and understanding one another.
It isn’t often on the agenda to just hang out and be present with each other. Enjoying each other's company and appreciating one another is what family time is all about. When we don’t spend quality time together, it is usually because we get so focused on the mundane everyday tasks.
At family yoga, we focus on having fun in the class, allowing the kids to be themselves while also encouraging parents to have fun and be silly. Laughter and movement are great medicine and are such a fun and engaging way to connect, bond, and be in the moment with the ones you love most!
What do you think, would you consider practicing yoga with your family and kids? Bring the whole family… aunts, uncles, and grandparents too! I promise you will all enjoy and leave class feeling connected, energized, and having had many laughs along the way!
Wishing you and your family a super fun filled summer. See you in class soon!
